The Premier of the North West, Edna Molewa, MECs and the newly elected
councillors will this week embark on the annual Imbizo Focus Week
programme.
The theme for the week is, "Age of Hope: A national effort for faster and
shared growth."
The Imbizo Focus Week comes shortly after the formation of the new local
government following an increased mandate from the people of the country. This
Imbizo provides an opportunity for political leaders in all three spheres of
government to intensify interactive communication around local programmes of
action to promote effective and speedy implementation of the Accelerated and
Shared Growth Initiative for South Africa (AsgiSA), including other government
programmes aimed at expanding access to a better life for all.
The principle of the Imbizo will be to review the programme of action (POA)
of 2005 and to introduce the 2006 programme of action.
The first Imbizo programme starts in Bojanala on Saturday, 8 April 2006. The
Premier will on this date launch the Vukuzenzele Multi-Purpose Community Centre
(MPCC) in Manamela and proceed to hand over 77 houses to beneficiaries. She
will conclude her programme by introducing the 120 community development
workers (CDW) in the area to the community. Members of the community will then
have the opportunity to raise their issues, concerns and questions to the
Premier and other leaders.
Other areas that will be visited during the Imbizo Focus Week are
Potchefstroom Local Municipality, Sarafina village on 12 April 2006, Ditsobotla
Local Municipality on the 24 April 2006 and Molopo Local Municipality in Bray,
26 April 2006. All events are scheduled to start at 8h00.
In all events the Premier will follow the same approach of unveiling or
launching service delivery projects.
Imbizo affords a platform for direct and unmediated interaction between
government and the people around the pace and direction of government service
delivery.
