Sedumedi
3 October 2007
Death has once again robbed us of a distinguished leader and servant of our
people. The death of one of the outstanding traditional leaders, Kgosi Sedumedi
Kenneth Sedumedi, marks the loss of a great leader, a father, a mentor and a
teacher.
His death comes at the time when his guidance and leadership are mostly
needed to consolidate good governance in our country and communities. I have no
doubt in my mind that Kgosi Sedumedi's leadership experience and expertise are
still needed to deepen the partnership between government and traditional
leaders to ensure that all of us are consciously aware and respond to the
challenges of ordinary people in a dignified manner.
It is in this context that both government and the traditional leaders
should continue to pursue this common objective and ensure that this
partnership is advanced to embody what Kgosi Sedumedi stood for. Indeed we will
remember him for his courage and passion for the people, having led Batlokwa Ba
Ga Sedumedi for nearly 34 years. This therefore personifies Kgosi Sedumedi as a
passionate and capable leader whose people always followed him without any fear
or doubt.
It is for this reason that all of us should celebrate the life of this
community hero, a man who assumed leadership at a young age and led his people
with dedication, respect and loyalty. There can be no better words to describe
his commitment to lead the people even during difficult times of colonial
resistance. In celebrating his life, we must always honour and salute the
spirit of such great traditional leaders as; Kgosi Galeshewe of the Batlhaping,
Kgosi Toto of the Batlharo, Kgosi Montshioa of the Barolong-boo-Ratshidi among
others.
We owe it to all these fallen leaders to make South Africa a better place
for its entire people. To the family and friends of Kgosi Sedumedi, we all
share the pain and loss.
May his soul rest in peace.
