with public servants
23 May 2006
The Premier of the North West Edna Molewa will on Thursday, 25 May 2006
commemorate the Candlelight Memorial Day with all public servants at the Garona
Square, Mmabatho.
The Candlelight Memorial day is observed to honour memories of those lost to
HIV and AIDS, show support to those still living with HIV and AIDS, to raise
awareness about HIV and AIDS and mobilise support to the fight against the
disease.
The theme for this year is "Lighting the path to a brighter futureâ. In line
with this theme, Premier Molewa, MECs, Directors-General and all Heads of
Departments together with public servants will embark on a Letsema Project
where they will visit 10 villages around Mafikeng to volunteer their
services.
Within the 10 villages, 10 households per village have been identified where
the Letsema Project will take place. The targeted households are those that are
child headed, orphans and the chronically ill people. The services that will be
rendered include bathing the sick, feeding them, cleaning, counselling and
distribution of food parcels.
The purpose of the visit to these families is to provide morale and
psycho-social support to identified families. After the Letsema, all public
servants will gather at the Garona Square to pray for those who are infected
and affected by the disease.
Media is invited to be part of the event. Journalists who wish to be part of
the Letsema are requested to confirm their attendance with:
