celebrations of 12 years of freedom

The North West Province, led by Premier Edna Molewa, will join the rest of
the country in celebrating Freedom Day. The event is scheduled for 27 April
2006, starting at 9h00 at the Delareyville sports grounds - Central
District.
The theme for the day is Age of Hope: Through struggle to Freedom - united
in a national effort for faster and shared growth.
On 27 April 1994, for the first time all South Africans voted in a free and
fair election, which opened the way to a democratic, non-racial, non-sexist and
prosperous South Africa based on the principles of equality, dignity and
respect for Human Rights.
President Thabo Mbeki said during the State of the Nation Address that
'clearly the masses of our people are convinced that our country has entered
into its Age of Hope. They believe that the country they love, their only
homeland, will not disappoint their expectations of an accelerated advance
towards the day when they will be liberated from the suffocating tentacles of
the legacy of colonialism and apartheid.'
Premier Molewa calls the people of North West to join in the celebrations of
12 years of freedom.
"Letâs reflect on the struggle that brought freedom, on our achievements as
a country, on the prejudices and inequalities that are being conquered, on the
strides we have made as a province in growing the economy and fighting
poverty," she said.
Molewa says "In the North West Province, we are on a steady but firm course
of delivering to the expectations of the throngs of people who made their
democratic mark in 1994. For these people and for us, freedom means nothing if
it is not accompanied by a marked improvement in the quality of their
lives.
Mafikizolo, Solly Moholo, Alaska, Tebogo Chaka and other local artists will
provide entertainment. All is welcome.
