North West Premier Edna Molewa will deliver a keynote address at an event to
celebrate the International Day for Disabled Persons, which will be held as
follows:
Date: Monday, 3 December 2007
Venue: Itsoseng Stadium
Time: 9am
The event will be celebrated under the theme: "Renewing our Pledge: Decent
Work for Persons with Disabilities." These celebrations also form part of the
16 Days of Activism Campaign for No Violence Against Women and Children.
Government will intensify efforts of educating the public about what it is
doing and has achieved in providing a better life for all, including disabled
persons.
So far, the following are some of the key challenges government has
identified in addressing issue of disability in its daily functioning:
* That to most, the disability programme is still a peripheral matter
* Low levels of public awareness on the work of government in addressing
disability issues
Members of the media are therefore invited to attend the event as the
Premier will be detailing the provincial governmentâs commitments to address
challenges facing disabled persons while also highlighting the achievements
thus far.
