International Co-operation
28 February 2006
The Department of Science and Technology (DST), through its overseas
Bilateral Co-operation sub-programme, will host a seminar workshop aimed at
informing science and technology research students and researchers about
opportunities and funding mechanisms available for use in research and
development. The seminar will take place on Tuesday, 7 March 2006. at the
Suncoast Conference Centre in Durban from 10h00.
Overseas bilateral co-operation is responsible for all South Africa's
country-to-country science and technology (S&T) engagements outside Africa.
To date, 30 bilateral agreements have been signed, which have resulted in over
400 research and development projects in areas such as information technology,
environmental management and manufacturing management.
These bilateral agreements play a huge role in building relations with
foreign countries as well as in sharing best practice. Through these agreements
funds are made available to promote research and development in key areas thus
contributing towards the human capital development agenda.
The seminar will serve as a platform for sharing knowledge and experience
among researchers and also explore ways of addressing the Innovation Chasm
through selecting projects that will have potential for social and economic
impact.
All media is welcome to attend the seminar.
