D Peters conveys condolences on death of L Dube

Statement by the Premier of the Northern Cape Dipuo Peters on
the death of Lucky Dube

19 October 2007

The Premier of the Northern Cape Dipuo Peters has received the news of the
death of reggae star Lucky Dube with shock and disbelieve.

The senseless murder of Lucky Dube, an outstanding musician our country has
produced must galvanise each and everyone in our province and country to create
all corners in our neighbourhood as no go areas for such criminality.

As the theme of government for this year calls on us to mobilise ourselves
and create safer communities it is important that we work even harder to bring
perpetrators of such heinous crimes to book. This must further put impious on
all of us to ensure that we root out once and for all the scourge of crime
where we live.

I am making a call to all our people to take back the streets and make life
difficult for anyone thinking of committing a crime to think twice. We must
commit ourselves to act in unison to confront head-on this terrible scourge in
our midst. One life taken is too many.

The provincial government of the Northern Cape and its people grieve the
death of one of our own – Lucky Dube. On behalf of the Northern Cape please
accept our condolences as your loss is our loss too.
