The MEC for Economic Development and Tourism, Mr Darkey Africa, will on
Thursday, 24 May 2007 be tabling his Department's Budget Vote for the 2007/2008
Financial Year. MEC Africa has indicated that the contributions of the members
of the public, business people and academics who attended his Budget
Consultative Road shows in the four districts of the province were very
valuable and are essential in shaping the speech he will be delivering.
"Although I will not include all of the inputs exactly as they were
presented during the road shows. They have assisted a lot in determining the
theme of my budget speech. I will be standing before the Provincial Legislature
conscious of the business people and other role players' in both the first and
the second economy's challenges and expectations," the MEC said. The budget
speech will be held as follows:

The MEC's budget speech will be preceded by a Certificate Awarding Ceremony
to government and Local Economic Development (LED) officials from
municipalities who have completed an Economics course which was sponsored by
the Department. The national Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) will also
be awarding certificates to LED officials who attended their dti/ Small
Enterprise Development Agency co-ordination course. The two courses were
designed to capacitate LED officials in an effort of enhancing service delivery
which is aimed at improving the economic performance of the province.
The MEC will further hold a press conference to present the newly appointed
board members of the North West Development Corporation and to outline the
contents of his budget speech. The award ceremony and press conference will be
held as follows:
