World Police and Fire Games, 16 to 25 March 2007 in Adelaide, Australia

One hundred representatives from Correctional Services will partake at the
Adelaide 2007 World Police and Fire Games scheduled to take place from 16 to 25
March 2007 in Adelaide, Australia.
The World Police and Fire Games have become a major international sporting
event in numbers second only to the Olympic Games. It is aimed at providing an
opportunity to unsung heroes of law enforcement and protection service
institutions around the world, to engage in friendly, yet serious competition
on sports filed, an appropriate token of appreciation to them for the part they
played in improving the quality of our lives and for making our country a safer
place to live in.
Department of Correctional Services believes that participation in these
Games will broaden the scope of our correctional sportsmen and women as men in
law enforcement through sports and introduce them to other cultures and
practices and in general foster mutual respect, understanding and
development.
The Department of Correctional Services as a responsible and fair employer
holds its employees in high esteem and is committed to allowing them to
participate in organised sporting events of this nature locally and
internationally.
It is no secret that participation in sport promotes the well-being of
individuals, no matter the level of participation. The Department of
Correctional Services is therefore committed to ensuring that mechanisms are
introduced for individuals to have equal access to all forms of sports
development, whether as players, officials, coaches or administrators at both
the entry levels and the elite levels of sport.
We bid farewell to our heroes and heroines as they depart for Australia,
fully confident that they will make South Africa proud.
