Communications recruit learners for International Computers
Drivers License Training Programme

As part of the Department of Communications contribution towards the 30th
Anniversary of June 16, the Department initiated a pilot programme to train
unemployed young people from rural nodal district municipalities on
International Computers Drivers Licence Training Programme. The training
program will be intensified in 2008 and 1 000 young people will be recruited.
This program will provide an entry point training for the Department's National
Youth Service Programme and it aim to achieve the following objectives:

* to enhance employment prospects of young people by improving their
information and communication technology (ICT) skills through further education
and training
* to provide young people with opportunity to render service in their
communities by assisting their communities to access government service through
the use of information and communications technology (ICT)
* to facilitate economic opportunities through employment for the youth
participating in this programme
* to promote voluntarism amongst young people and bring about experiential
exposure.

The Department of Communications invites applications from young people to
participate in training on the International Computers Drivers License (ICDL)
course. Applications are invited from candidates that reside in the rural and
urban district nodal municipalities specifically the following
Municipalities:

* Gauteng: Alexandra,
* Eastern Cape: Alfred Nzo, Buffalo City, Chris Hani, Nelson Mandela,OR Tambo
and Ukhahlamba, Mdansane , Motherwell
* Mpumalanga: Bushbuckridge
* Western Cape: Central Karoo, Khayelitsha/Mitchells Plain
* KwaZulu-Natal: Ugu, Umzinyathi, Zululand, Umkhanyakude, and Inanda,
KwaMashu
and Ntuzuma
* Free State: Maluti-a-Phofung
* Northern Cape: Galeshewe, Kgalagadi
* Limpopo: Sekhukhune and Maruleng.

The ICDL training programme aims to provide unemployed matriculants with an
opportunity to acquire end user computing skills and therefore enhance their
employment prospects.

As an exit opportunity for the training program students who successfully
complete the training may be considered for the Department's National Youth
Service Programmme and related advanced information technology training
programmes offered through the Further Education and Training (FET) Skills
Programme.

Requirements are as follows:

Youth between 18 and 30 with grade twelve certificates and must be
unemployed. Only candidates with no prior training on computers, broadcasting,
telecommunications, and postal services will be considered. The training will
take place over a period of four to six months.
