Cabinet has approved the appointment of three Deputy Directors-General in
the Department of Communications.
The three Deputy Directors-General are:
Dr Keith Shongwe, a Senior General Manager responsible for the State
Information Technology Agencyâs (SITA) Centres of Excellence, will fill the
position of Deputy Director-General in the area of Strategic Policy
Co-ordination, Integration and International Affairs.
Dr Shonge holds a BSc degree in Biology and Chemistry, a CDE Diploma in
Education, both from the University of Swaziland. He has an MBCHB from the
University of Natal and has done a Management Advancement Programme certificate
with Wits Business School.
Dr Harold Wesso who leads the Information and Communications Technology
(ICT) Programmes of the Western Cape Provincial Government and currently
represents the Provincial Government on Strategy and ICT Committees of the
University of Cape Town. He is a member of the e-Health Commission of the
Presidential National Commission on the Information Society and
Development.
He will join the Department of Communications as Deputy Director-General
responsible for Policy Development. He holds a BCompt degree and Masters in
Business Administration.
In addition to the two new appointments, the Departmentâs Chief Financial
Officer, Mr Harry Mathabathe has been appointed to the position of Deputy
Director-General.
Mr Mathabathe joined the Department of Communications as Chief Financial
Officer in 2001. He will serve the Department as the Deputy Director-General
for Finance, State-owned Enterprises and Small, Medium and Macro Enterprises
(SMMEs), a position he was holding in an acting capacity.
The approval by Cabinet comes as a shot in the arm for the department,
especially given the centrality of ICTs in governmentâs stated interventions to
ensure that Accelerated and Shared Growth Initiative of South Africa (ASGISA)
thrives.
