Minister for Safety and Security Charles Nqakula will address a business
breakfast meeting in Johannesburg on Friday on partnerships in the fight
against crime. He will focus on the steadily growing range of interventions
between government and greater South African society in general.
The building of partnerships with relevant stakeholders in crime prevention
and combating to reduce the levels of crime in South Africa is informed by an
appreciation of the principle that no police force or service can deal
effectively with crime if it does not enjoy the support of the masses in the
communities they police. The main orientation of partnerships is community
involvement in crime prevention and combating where community policing defines
a close relationship between the police and the communities. The Minister is
also expected to address interaction with religious leaders, especially at the
level of the National Religious Leaders Forum and the developing co-operation
between government and the business sector.
