launches Provincial Disaster Management Advisory Forum

The MEC for Department of Local Government and Housing Candith
Mashego–Dlamini will launch the Mpumalanga Provincial Disaster Management
Advisory Forum. This is a forum where the Provincial Government and relevant
disaster management role-players in the province consult one another and
co-ordinate their actions on matters relating to disaster management. The forum
will also give advice, monitor and make recommendations on disaster-related
issues and risk management. The forum is mandated by Section (37) (1) of
Disaster Manager Act.

The Disaster Management Advisory Forum (PDMAF) must be established by the
Member of the Executive Council responsible for administering the Act and must
be chaired by the Head of Provincial Disaster Management Centre among other
issues. The forum must also ensure the co-ordination and performance of all the
functions as mandated by the relevant legislation. It must consist of the
following:

a. Senior representatives or designated officials from all provincial
departments
b. The heads of the district municipal disaster management centres in the
province
c. Representatives of organised local government in the province
d. Representatives of other disaster management role-players in the
province.
