Two facilities, dedicated to the improvement of the quality of health of
women in Gauteng, are to be opened on Tuesday as part of the national
celebration of womenâs month.
The two facilities, Ramokonupi maternity and obstetrics unit and a high-tech
breast cancer clinic, will be opened by the MEC for Health Mr Brian
Hlongwa.
The Ramokonupi maternity and obstetrics unit will be of great benefit
particularly to disadvantaged women living in informal settlements and hostels
in Thokoza and Katlehong who will, for the first time, have access to a
facility closer to their homes to give birth and for the improvement of their
reproductive health.
The breast clinic will boast the latest technology for immediate diagnosis
and treatment of the breast cancer by highly qualified specialists in the
field.
The clinic will be the first of its kind in the public sector and will also
be used to train registrars in surgery, radiology and other disciplines. The
hospital currently sees approximately 60 patients a week in three separate
clinics held on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at 09h00.
