Hlongwa leads Door-to-Door AIDS Campaign

29 November 2007

Gauteng Health MEC Brian Hlongwa will on Thursday, 29 November 2007, lead
hundreds of volunteers in a door-to-door HIV and AIDS Education Campaign.

Held under the theme 'Turn Talk into Action on AIDS', the campaign which
commenced on Monday, 26 November 2007, will run until Friday. 30 November
2007.

The overall aim of the campaign is to encourage people to practice
responsible sexual behaviour and contribute to the reduction of the impact of
HIV and AIDS on individuals, families and communities.

Volunteers will engage communities about different issues, including safe
sex, children's needs, care and support for those infected and affected by HIV
and AIDS.

Radio and print media will also be used to spread messages of prevention.
"Most people know about AIDS but they are not taking requisite actions needed
to protect themselves from the disease. Everyone is talking about HIV and AIDS
and everyone has an opinion. We must transcend this talking by joining hands in
our fight against this epidemic," said Hlongwa.
