The Gauteng MEC for Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation, Barbara Creecy,
will visit the Carnival Base Camp in Soweto to monitor progress of the
construction of floats and seamstresses as part of the build-up towards the
main event on 8 September 2007.
Hundreds of Soweto community members are benefiting from the Base Camp
through skills development and job creation in preparation for the hosting of
the third Gauteng Carnival under the theme Pale ya Rona (Telling our
story).
The Carnival is part of the creative industries strategy which is aimed at
developing the creative industries to contribute to economic growth, job
creation, community development and urban regeneration. The event forms part of
the Heritage Month celebrations during September.
