B Creecy on public viewing of Rugby World Cup final

Public viewing for Rugby World Cup

19 October 2007

The Gauteng Provincial Government in support of the South African
Broadcasting Corporation's (SABC) initiative for the public viewing of the
Rugby World Cup final between South Africa and England will offer opportunities
for Gauteng Springbok supporters to watch the live screening of tomorrow's
final.

Thousands of people are expected to attend the events scheduled to take
place at Walter Sisulu Square in Kliptown, Soweto and Church Square in Tshwane.
The public viewing project is considered to present economic opportunities for
local communities who wish to do business by selling food and drink during the
matches and the Gauteng government is working with municipalities and business
to develop fan parks where members of the public will be able to view
matches.

"The success of the concept will also allow us to plan for other cup final
matches featuring Gauteng teams or national teams that are played outside of
the province and country, in line with our overall strategy to position Gauteng
as a home of competitive sport and a home of champions," said Gauteng MEC for
Sports, Arts, Culture and Recreation, Barbara Creecy.

The public viewing spaces will ensure social interaction amongst rugby
supporters and help contribute to nation building in our province. We call on
all Gautengers to come join us as we support the 'Bokke' in their quest to
bring the cup home.
