Provincial Prayer Day at Richards Bay
15 March 2007
The MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison Mr Bheki Cele will on
Thursday, 22 March 2007, officially launch suggestion boxes aimed at
encouraging consultation between the South African Police Service (SAPS) and
the community. The Complaints Management Directorate of the Department of
Community Safety and Liaison under the guidance of the Honourable MEC Bheki
Cele views the suggestion boxes as a tool which will be used by the community
of KwaZulu-Natal to give input regarding service delivery that is provided by
the SAPS in their areas. The input will be provided in the form of compliments,
suggestions and complaints.
The Suggestion Boxes are aimed at encouraging community participation with
regards to policing matters and crime prevention issues. The community is also
encouraged to use this tool not only for suggestions and complaints, but also
complimenting the positive things done by their local SAPS and Community
Policing Forums (CPFs) regarding service delivery. The boxes will be managed by
department officials and Community Policing Structures in each police station.
They will also be placed in public malls, municipal offices, one stop shop
centres, hospitals, etc, depending on the dynamics of the area. The aim of the
prayer will be to encourage faith based organisations and communities to
actively engage in crime prevention initiatives. They will do this by
committing themselves through their submission of a manifesto and signing of
the pledge.
