Agriculture on meeting of AgriBEE Steering Committee

AgriBEE Steering Committee meets

11 December 2006

The AgriBEE Steering Committee sat on 7 December 2006 for the first time
after the Minister of Agriculture and Land Affairs, Ms Lulu Xingwana, had
extended its mandate and appointed additional members to it from Labour, Rural
Women and the Land Social Movement.

The purpose of the meeting was for the Steering Committee to discuss the
document as it now includes the changes introduced by the Minister. It was also
to determine how the Steering Committee would work together with the Department
of Trade and Industry (DTI) to facilitate the process of ensuring the
successful gazetting of the AgriBEE Charter to which all the key stakeholders
in Agriculture will append their signature of partnership.

The meeting was also attended by officials from the DTI, who answered
critical questions from members of the Steering Committee. The DTI officials
emphasised the vital role that still had to be played by the Steering Committee
to the Gazetting process that will establish AgriBEE Charter Council.
