5 November 2007

Labour Minister Membathisi Mdladlana today accepted an official invitation
to visit the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) as part of working relations
between his Ministry and that of the DRC.

The invitation was extended by DRC Labour Minister Mary-Ang Lukiana during
their meeting at Minister Mdladlana's office today (Fri).

Minister Lukiana is part of a delegation of the DRC's ruling party, the
People's Party for Reconciliation and Democracy, which is being hosted by its
South African counterpart, the African National Congress (ANC).

Issues that the two ministers discussed included the sharing of experiences
and expertise on matters such as youth unemployment, skills development, the
Expanded Public Works Programme and poverty alleviation.

Minister Mdladlana said meeting his DRC counterpart would be beneficial for
all the people of the two countries.

"It is quite critical that we meet, given the fact that the Presidents of
our two countries have already done so," he said.

After the meeting, Minister Lukiana proceeded to visit other Labour
Department programmes, the Unemployment Insurance Fund, Compensation Fund and
Umsobomvu Youth Fund.
