Minister of Labour, Membathisi Mdladlana, leaves for
International Labour Organisation and Sweden

Labour Minister, Membathisi Mdladlana, leaves for Geneva on 10 November 2007
to attend the 300th Session of the International Labour Organisation's (ILO's)
governing body, the Ministry has announced. The governing body of the ILO, as
the executive body of the International Labour Office, meets to discuss ILO
policy issues, future programmes of the organisation, including the agenda of
the 2008 June International Labour Conference.

South Africa as represented by Labour Minister is a key member of this
body.

The Minister joins a high profile team of Department of Labour officials at
the meeting which started on the first and ends on 15 November. Its agenda
includes:

* basic labour rights in Myanmar, Belarus and other countries
* trade and employment
* United Nations reform
* the impact of climate changes on jobs
* development and the Millennium Development Goals.

Meanwhile, in what may pave the way for a bilateral co-operation with
Sweden, the Minister will head for Sweden after ILO, at the invitation of his
counterpart, Sven Otto Litton. The two Ministers will discuss how both parties
could work together to address challenges that are faced by their countries in
the field of labour.
