M Mdladlana on end of contract with V Mkosana

Labour Director-General calls it a day

20 November 2007

Labour Director-General (DG), Vanguard Mkosana's contract comes to an end on
30 November 2007, the Ministry has announced. Dr Mkosana has served in this
position since 2004. Labour Minister Membathisi Mdladlana today praised the
outgoing Director-General for the sterling work he has done during his
term.

"During his tenure, Dr Mkosana has successfully intensified the department's
core objectives of job creation, poverty alleviation, employment equity and
occupational health and safety.

"As the department we regret that we could not persuade him to accept the
normal five-year contract as against the three-year period that he insisted on
when he reluctantly took up the position in 2004," the Minister said.

In an unprecedented move, the Minister announced that he would host a
farewell function for Mkosana during his last mid-term review meeting on 29 and
30 November 2007.

"This is an indication of the amicable way in which both the DG and myself
are parting ways," concluded the Minister.

Commenting on his pending departure, the DG thanked the Minister "for
affording me an opportunity to serve at the highest structure of government.
Together we weathered trying moments in the running of the department."
