host 12th Annual Summit

The Nedlac Executive Council is pleased to invite you to the 12th Nedlac
Annual Summit. The Annual Summit brings together over 250 delegates drawn from
organised labour, organised business, government and community-based
organisations in South Africa.
The annual summit will be held as follows:
Date: Saturday, 1 September 2007
Time: 09h00 to 13h30
Venue: Emperor's Palace, (near OR Tambo International Airport), Kempton Park,
Gauteng
In terms of the Nedlac Act and Constitution, the 2007 Annual Summit will be
chaired by the Deputy President of the Republic of South Africa, Honourable
Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka who will also deliver a keynote Address.
Themes:
* building the domestic industrial capacity, skills development for
sustainable growth and development, "Finding the symbiotic link"
* the economics of development key achievements and challenges for South
Africa.
Key policy discussion sessions will include an address by the Honourable
Minister of Trade and Industry, Mr Mandisi Mpahlwa on the industrial policy
framework for growth and development; as well as the plenary session on skills
challenge and the Sector Education and Training Authorities (Setas).
The National Economic Development and Labour Council (Nedlac), was
established in terms of the first pieces of legislation, the Nedlac Act (Act 35
of 1994), as a key institution that has sought to entrench participatory
democracy in the post apartheid South Africa. Through social dialogue, Nedlac
has brought together organised business, organised labour, government, and
community groupings to reach consensus on how best to address the economic and
development challenges facing South Africa.
