The Department of Labour will be holding public briefing sessions to discuss
the development of hospitality sectoral legislation. The hospitality sector is
accepted as one of the growth engines of our countryâs economy.
The Department is looking into combining the currently existing four
sectoral determinations, namely: Hotel Trade, Catering Trade, The Trade of
Letting of Flats or Rooms and Accommodation Establishment Trade as well as
including a range of related business activities such as those within Travel
and Tourism, Gambling and Lotteries and Conservation and Guiding into a single
sectoral determination.
An investigation was conducted with assistance by the Human Science Research
Council (HSRC) to find out about the wage level and conditions of employment,
the levels of vulnerability of employees in the sector as well as the
feasibility of grouping business activities into one sectoral
determination.
A report of findings in this regard has been released to the public for
their comments to be forwarded to Employment Conditions Commission.
