Labour on Compensation Fund payments to service providers

Compensation Fund pays R5,3 million to service providers

11 October 2006

In a move aimed at fast tracking service delivery, the Department of
Labour's Compensation Fund has declared war on backlogs that have resulted in
many medical service providers and other stakeholders not being paid for the
services they render.

This emerged during the recent services Imbizo held in the Western Cape,
Free State and in Cape Town.

The Compensation Fund has paid more R5,3 million owed to medical doctors in
the Free State alone. A number of other outstanding compensation claims from
individuals were also settled, including the case of two guards who were
recently mauled by lions.

The current Imbizo in Cape Town will run until the end of this week, and
will be followed by another in George, while the last one will be in
KwaZulu-Natal.

During these Imbizo all claims that have been approved are processed and
finalised on the spot.

The main services that are being rendered during the services Imbizo are
medical payments of all claims that have all the necessary documentation,
adjudication of claims, answering of all compensation queries as well as the
promotion of the usage of the Compensation Fund Call Centre number (0860 105
350) and labour centres.
