South Africa will go to the polls for the fifth democratic elections in 2014. In preparation for the elections, the Electoral Commission (IEC) announced a second registration campiagn for the weekend of 8 and 9 February 2014.
The IEC is making a special call to the youth to vote with a campaign involving young celebrities. All South African citizens 16 years and older in possession of a valid SA ID (green barcoded ID, new smartcard ID or Temporary ID Certificate) may register at their correct voting station. You may vote once you are 18 years old.
South Africans living outside of the country who wish to vote in next year’s national election can register in person either in South Africa or at one of South Africa’s 124 Embassies, High Commissions or Consulates-General located in 108 countries. South African citizens living outside of the country who are already registered as voters in South Africa do not need to register again. Applications for registration take place during normal office hours of the various missions until Friday, 7 February 2014.

Voters in South Africa can register or re-register at Electoral Commission offices up until the announcement of the date of the elections.
To make sure that you are registered to vote, check your registration status, ward number and voting station location online, or sms your ID number to 32810 (R1 per sms).

- Those wishing to check whether they appear on the voters’ roll could also SMS their ID numbers to 32810 at a cost of R1.
- You can also check your details online with the Independent Electoral Commission.
