Free State Department of Labour observes World Health and
Safety Day

Department of Labour, Free State, will be commemorating the provincial World
Day for Health and Safety at work tomorrow, 25 April.

The World Day for Safety and Health is celebrated globally on 28 April and
in South Africa the national event will take place on 4 May 2006 at Tzaneen, in
the Limpopo where Labour Minister Membathisi Mdladlana will address the
crowd.

The day will highlight the day’s international theme of “Decent Work - Safe
Work – HIV/AIDS” focusing on the challenges of reducing the toll of death,
injury and sickness at workplaces with special attention to prevention
techniques that have proven themselves as effective in both avoiding
occupational accidents and disease and in improving business performance.

The observance of the world day will begin with a series of inspection to be
conducted at six different employers to check compliance on the health and
safety standards.
