World No Tobacco Day

In South Africa more than 43 000 people die every year from diseases directly and indirectly related to tobacco smoke. To raise awareness, the Western Cape Department of Health will host a seminar to celebrate World No Tobacco Day.

The seminar will draw attention to International World No Tobacco Day on 31 May 2009. Themed “Tobacco health warnings,” it will focus on the new tobacco legislation and tobacco control during the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

The seminar aims to share tobacco information and research findings within its role players and also discuss new tobacco legislation, obtain co-operation to engage in health activities and to facilitate development of action plans in terms of tobacco control.
