Western Cape Minister of Cultural Affairs, Sport and Recreation, Sakkie Jenner, will be hosting a sign language seminar in Cape Town.
The seminar which is aimed at government officials seeks to assist the officials in interacting with deaf people in public places, serve as an awareness project to sensitize government officials to the challenges of deaf people and in particular the impact it has on them accessing services and the quality of services.
This seminar is a follow up to the one hosted by the Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport in 2002 and the subsequent sign language training workshops conducted in 2003 and the code of ethics for sign language interpreters created in 2004.
