Premier Supra Mahumapelo closes Youth Month celebrations

NWest wraps up Youth Month on high note!

North West Provincial Government is not just talking, it is walking the talk, Premier Supra Mahumapelo told hundreds of young people gathered at Ikageleng stadium in Zeerust at the weekend.

He was speaking during the event organised to wrap up Youth Month activities in the Province.

“We want to ensure that young people play a key role in the economy. We are not just talking—we are practical. We have established Youth Entrepreneurship Service to capacitate young people to become business owners. We want them to become employers and not employees,” said Mahumapelo.

He said he was satisfied that the province was in the right track to address the triple challenge of poverty, unemployment, and inequality.

“We know you want work. But our approach is to get you involved in business so that you become business owners instead of employees,” he said.

Through the saamtrek saamwerk philosophy, Mahumapelo said the province was developing young people in various industries, giving them funding and the necessary skills they need to run their businesses, while at the same time assisting government to close service delivery gaps.

Mahumapelo cited an initiative in which government continued to work with industry to train and mentor young people in construction, while building hundreds of much-needed houses across the province as part of service delivery.
