Minister Masutha convenes Youth Imbizo in Khayelitsha to advance youth empowerment through corrections

The Minister of Justice and Correctional Services, Hon. Adv. Michael Masutha in partnership with the Khayelitsha Development Forum (KYD), will convene the Correctional Youth Imbizo at Khayelitsha in the Western Cape, on Saturday (25 June 2016), as part of a series of Youth Summits being hosted across the country.

Minister Masutha has embarked on a series of Corrections Youth Summits to explore ways of optimising the potential and energies of young people and to divert them from crime and offending behaviour. The Minister’s campaign entails engaging young people, particularly those at risk of ending up in correctional centres, together with various stakeholders who have a role in accelerating the development of the South African society.

The Minister will highlight how young people, who make up the largest segment of the inmate/offender population, can avert the criminal route to meet their material needs, and furthermore, find innovative ways of utilising the resources available at correctional facilities to advance a local developmental agenda.
