World Environment Day 2016

5 June

The United Nations designated 5 June as World Environment Day (WED) to deepen public awareness of the need to preserve and enhance the environment. That date recalls the opening day of the United Nations Conference on the Human Environment (Stockholm, 1972), which led to the establishment of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). Another resolution, adopted by the General Assembly the same day, led to the creation of UNEP.

WED is the opportunity for everyone to realise not only the responsibility to care for the Earth and to become agents of change. World Environment Day also serves as the ‘people’s day’ for doing something positive for the environment, galvanizing individual actions into a collective power that generates an exponential positive impact on the planet.
