Western Cape honours residents for food security contributions, 12 Dec

Western Cape residents to be honoured for food security contributions

One quarter of South African households do not have access to enough food.

Improving food security is a top priority of the Western Cape Government.

Next week, the provincial Department of Agriculture will honour residents in the West Coast for their contribution to improving food security.

Proactive residents from Pella, Mamre and surrounding areas will be recognised for their contributions as a result of having food gardens, household chicken production operations and community gardens.

This initiative is linked to World Food Day, which is marked around the world to raise awareness around food security.

The judging panel included officials from the Western Cape Department of Agriculture, the Western Cape Department of Education, the City of Cape Town and the National Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries.

Alan Winde, MEC of Economic Opportunities, will deliver the keynote address the event.
