MEC Wendy Nelson welcomes judgement by Pretoria High Court on Tlokwe Municipality

Victory for Tlokwe City council leadership remains intact

The Acting MEC for Local Government and Human Settlements, Wendy Nelson wish to welcome the judgement made by the Pretoria High Court on the urgent application which was brought by the opposition parties in Tlokwe Local Municipality to force the Speaker of Council Cllr. Barei Segotso to convene a special council meeting whereby amongst others, they wanted to submit a vote of no confidence in the speaker and the Mayor which include his executive.

"We want to be on record to indicate that, the judgement itself, will brought stability in council and will make the leadership of council to focus more in strengthening good governance in the municipality and accelerate  issues of service delivery to the people of Tlokwe" said Nelson

Judge Elias Motojane, in his judgement on Friday morning, dismissed the case with costs on the basis that opposition parties application does not meet the requirements of Rule 6 which sets out the requirements for urgent matters to be dealt with by the High Court.

The Ordinary Council Meeting of Tlokwe  is scheduled to take place on the 29th January 2016 to deal only with compliance issues which amongst others include annual reports.
