North West Premier Supra Mahumapelo on death of siblings in Makgobistad

North West Premier Supra Mahumapelo has expressed sadness over the reported death of two siblings in Makgobistad yesterday.

The two boys aged 10 years and 12 years were learners at Makgobi Primary School.

According Cathrine Marumo, an educator at the school, the school was informed that the children fell sick after eating some potato chips and drinking tap water from a 25 litre container at home in the late afternoon. They died at the local clinic in the late evening.

She said all in all three children belonging to the same family were affected, adding that the third one aged about 15 years was recuperating at Bophelong Hospital in Mahikeng.

“We send our heartfelt condolences to the family affected by this tragedy. We will do whatever we can do from our side to provide support to the family during this difficult time,” Premier Mahumapelo said.

The Office of the Premier visited the family earlier today and spoke to a family member who confirmed the incident. She said the family was still awaiting a medical report.

The provincial department of Social Development will, in the meantime, visit the family to assist with counselling and determine what form of support will be required by the family.

The school principal Lesedi Modise said a memorial service was being planned for Thursday, November 10 at Makgobistad Community Hall, from 11:30 in the morning.
