North West Legislature conducts oversight visit at Ramotshere Municipality, 24 Aug

Committee on Agriculture to conduct oversight visit at Ramotshere Municipality on Tshimo ya Kgosi Programme

On Wednesday, 24 August 2016, the Portfolio Committee on Tourism and Rural, Environment and Agricultural Development (READ) will conduct an oversight meeting with Traditional Leaders at the Ramotshere Moiloa Local Municipality at 08h30 on the Tshimo ya Kgosi Programme, meaning a Chief’s arable land.

Kgosi Lenchoe of Moshana Village and Kgosi Gopane of Gopane village are one of the beneficiaries of the programme, with each of them allocated twenty-five (25) pregnant Heifers, (one) 1 Bull, Feeds and Medication according to the department’s rollout.

The purpose of the visit will be to assess the Tshimo ya Kgosi Programme the distribution and the rollout of the programme, the impact of the programme on rural poverty and the effectiveness of the programme.

Tshimo ya Kgosi, previously known as “PATSHA”, was first launched by MEC for READ, Manketsi Tlhape on the year 2014. It was initiated with a view to restore the traditional leaders’ dignity, respect and authority as carers of people they are leading. Moreover, the initiative seeks to encourage the use of every piece of arable land for agriculture, this in line with the objectives of the nationally coordinated Fetsa Tlala Programme.
