MEC Desbo Mohono congratulates Tourism for winning Batho Pele Excellence Awards

The North West for Tourism Desbo Mohono would like to congratulate the Minister of National Department of Tourism, Derek Hanekon, the Director General Victor Tharage, their executive management and their general staff at large for emerging as winners at the National Batho Pele Excellence Awards which were recently held.

The National Department won the best functioning and outstanding national Department of the year while the Director General won the best Director General of the year by demonstrating exceptional leadership skills and expertise.

MEC Mohono said that such honours restores the dignity of public service and assures the people of South Africa that public service administration is under capable and capacitated hands.

“As the North West Tourism fraternity we would like to congratulate Minister Derek Hanekom and his Director General Victor Tharage not only for winning these awards but for reassuring our people that we still have capable individuals within the public sector spectrum who are at the helm of accountable and responsible governing of functional public sector institutions.

This for us at the provincial level is an achievement because people will be able to trust that government can deliver as expected and be recognised at the level of such magnitude”, she said.

She added that this should also be a benchmark for all public service entities entrusted with the constitutional mandate of administrating the tourism sector nationwide. “We need to use this as a stepping stone and set the performance mark of our tourism departments based on what the national department has achieved.

This is truly remarkable that our national department scooped these two awards. This shows that tourism is in the right hands in terms public service administration and now these awards act as an affirmation that this sector is well capacitated”, added Mohono.

The National Batho Pele Excellence Awards are aimed at awarding public servants who performed excellently. They promote sharing of best practices, learning, rewarding good performance and gauge citizen satisfaction towards government performance. Their purpose is to entrench the professionalisation, recognise, reward, acknowledge and encourage excellence in the public service and make sure it matures to greater heights.
