Minister Senzeni Zokwana holds stakeholders engagement on farm violence, 14 Jun

The Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, Mr Senzeni Zokwana in his efforts to prioritise the safety and wellbeing of farmers and farming communities hereby invites all stakeholders, civil society organisations and the media to a round table discussion.

The purpose of the discussions will be to address and find solutions to the forms of violence faced by the farming communities. Issues pertaining to farm workers working conditions will also form part of the discussions with stakeholders such as Farmers Union and Afriforum. The Minister and Afriforum have already agreed on a five point plan that should be implemented to protect farmers as well as the people living in farming communities.

The other stakeholders involved are the Department of Police, the Department of Justice and Constitutional Development, the Human Rights Commission and also the Department of Labour.  The importance of engaging with all these stakeholders in a round table discussion will be to afford the Minister an opportunity to improve the livelihood of farmers and farm workers, combat the murders and transform the farming sector.
