Social Development participates in South African AIDS Conference at Durban, 13 to 15 Jun

Social Development to participate at the 8th Bi-Annual South African AIDS Conference (SAAIDS) in Durban

The Department of Social Development will from Tuesday, June 13, until Thursday, June 15, participate at the South African Aids Conference (SAAIDS) at Inkosi Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre (ICC) in Durban.

The conference will take place under the theme, “The Long Walk to Prevention: Every voice counts.” to reflect on progress made to date in response to HIV and Aids pandemic. SAAIDS will be attended by among key stakeholders, Faith Based Organisations (FBOs), Traditional Leaders, Youth and Local Government representatives.

In order to address social and structural barriers to quality of life for all South Africans, Social Development will during the conference have satellite discussions focussing on the following topics:

  • Expanding Community Based Prevention and Early Intervention Services for Vulnerable Children towards an HIV Free Generation
  • Integrating Child Protection Services and HIV and Aids Interventions to Improve Orphaned, Vulnerable Children and Youth (OVCY) Outcomes; and
  • Social Development’s Contribution towards the HIV and AIDS Response.
