Gauteng Sport and Recreation hosts Recreation Day in Toekomsrus, 29 Oct

Recreation Day goes to Toekomsrus to promote healthy lifestyles

Toekomsrus Stadium will be a hype of activity when the Recreation Day programme reaches the area this coming Saturday, 29 October 2016. Thousands of communities from in and around Toekomsrus including Mohlakeng and Randfontein among others will descend upon the stadium to participate in various activities catering for kids, youth, adults and the elderly.

Working with the Randfontein Local Municipality, the Gauteng Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation bring this fun-filled day where participants will choose from a bouquet of entertaining activities including fun walk, soccer five a side, aerobics, tug of war, spoon race and more.

The Recreation Day programme came about following a 2014 Cabinet decision declaring the first Friday of October as the National Recreation Day. This was meant to raise awareness among South Africans about the need to become physically active and to dedicate part of their day towards participating in physical activities of their choice.

Since this year Gauteng working with its municipalities has since decided to make the rest of October a Recreational month, with the programme going to various communities.
