President Jacob Zuma had to cut short his Reconciliation Day speech when a heavy rainstorm wreaked havoc during the commemoration event in Gopane in the North West few minutes ago.
The storm violently shook the tent in which the event was held, but no one was injured.
As a result, the proceedings had to be stopped before time.
Commemorated annually on 16 December, Reconciliation Day started in 1994 after the first democratic elections to foster reconciliation and unity amongst South Africans.
Today’s commemoration was attended by several politicians, including North West Premier Supra Mahumapelo, Minister of Arts and Culture Nathi Mthethwa and North West MEC for Culture, Arts and Traditional Affairs Ontlametse Motshware.
The North West Provincial Government has thanked everybody who made an effort to attend the event.
