Gauteng Arts and Culture hands over multipurpose facilities in Randfontein, 5 Nov

New facilities to benefit the community of Rand West (Randfontein)

The landscape of Gauteng’s recreation and sporting facilities within previously disadvantaged areas is slowly changing for the better.

This coming weekend on Saturday, 5 November the Gauteng Provincial Government through the Department of Sport, Arts Culture and Recreation, in partnership with Rand West City Local Municipality, Gauteng Gambling Board and Sport Trust will hand over two state of the art multipurpose facilities to local communities within the area.

The two facilities based at Phahama Secondary School in Mohlakeng and at Toekomsrus Stadium in Toekomsrus boast soccer fields, basketball, and netball and tennis courts among others.

Through its mass participation programme the Gauteng department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation wants to promote healthy and active lifestyles in communities, and at the same time begin to realise transformation in sport. To achieve this the department is on a drive to address shortage of sporting and recreation facilities and ensuring that everyone including previously disadvantaged communities have access to well-equipped facilities with a variety of sporting codes.
