Gauteng MEC for Roads and Transport Ismail Vadi has expressed shock over the horrific accident that took place on the R82 near Walkerville which claimed at least nine lives and left others injured this morning.
At least nine passengers died on the scene and five sustained serious injuries. The taxi driver sustained minor injuries.
MEC Vadi expressed his deepest condolences to the families of the deceased and wished those injured a speedy recovery.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the deceased during this time of grief and speedy recovery to the injured. We would like to once again urge drivers to always exercise caution and patience on the roads,” MEC Vadi said.
The cause of the accident is still being investigated.
