Parliament deliberates on Public Protector interviewees, 18 Aug

Public Protector Committee deliberates on interviewees tomorrow

Deliberations on last week’s interviews for the Public Protector position will take place tomorrow (Thursday, 18 August 2016) at 13h00 in Parliament’s Committee Room E249 on the Second Floor of the New Wing Building.

Ad Hoc Committee Chairperson Dr Makhosi Khoza says this meeting is expected to reflect on each interviewee’s performance so as to enable the Committee to reduce the number of candidates for consideration, from 14 to possibly five.

Dr Khoza also said a meeting to decide on the ultimate candidate for recommendation to the National Assembly will have to be scheduled sometime next week.

“We would not be doing justice to the process if we want to reflect on all the 14 candidates tomorrow and at the same time want rush to choose the preferred candidate by tomorrow already,” said Dr Khoza.

Dr Khoza said the Committee wants to do a thorough job with this process, hence the decision to separate the meeting of reducing the number of candidates and the one to decide on the candidate to be recommended to the National Assembly on 31 August.
