Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation hosts Pro-poor Policy Development Conference in Pretoria, 12 Oct

The Department of Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation (DPME) in partnership with The Programme to Support Pro-poor Policy Development (PSPPD) is hosting its first Phase II Research Conference, themed: “Working Towards Eliminating Poverty and Reducing Inequality: Addressing the Implementation Challenge”.

The PSPPD is a European Union (EU) funded research and capacity-building programme which promotes the use of research and other evidence in policy interventions that address poverty and inequality. Located within the DPME, the programme assists national and provincial policy-makers across all spheres of government to systematically harness the best available evidence to inform the policy-making process.

The main aim of the dissemination conference is to provide a platform for the eight Call for Proposals 1 (CfP1) grantees to share their findings and to engage policymakers and other stakeholders on key policy issues arising from their research.

The acting Director General of the DPME, Tshediso Matona will deliver an address on the role of evidence in policy planning, monitoring and evaluation.

The European Union Ambassador to South Africa, Marcus Cornaro will also deliver an address on the partnership of the South Africa and the European Union.

The conference will also create a platform for fostering relationships between policy makers, researchers, and other stakeholders in the private and civil sectors to share knowledge.

Phase I of the PSPPD programme was implemented between 2007 and 2012 with 14 research grants being allocated. During Phase II (between 2012 and 2017), a total of 23 research grants has been allocated, 8 under the first call for proposals (CfP1) and 13 under the second (CfP2).
