President Zuma signs Special Investigating Unit proclamation
President Jacob Zuma has signed a Proclamation authorising the Special Investigating Unit (SIU) to investigate certain matters relating to the affairs of the Department of Communications.
The Proclamation authorises the SIU to investigate the following allegations:
- The validity of the award by the department of a tender to render services in respect of a public awareness campaign relating to the broadcasting digital migration process project to Media Corner (Pty) Limited.
- The validity of a Memorandum of Agreement concluded between the department and Media Corner.
- Unauthorised, irregular or fruitless and wasteful expenditure incurred by the department in as far as it relates to the awarding of the tender to Media Corner.
- Improper or unlawful conduct by employees of the department in as far as it relates to the awarding of the tender to Media Corner.
- The SIU will further investigate the roles played by the employees of the department in as far as it relates awarding of the tender to Media Corner.
