President Jacob Zuma attends 2nd Investing in Africa Forum in Guangdong Province, China, 7 to 8 Sept

President Zuma arrives in Guangzhou, Guangdong Province, People’s Republic of China

President Zuma has today, 05 September 2016, arrived in Guangdong Province, People’s Republic of China, to attend the 2nd Investing in Africa Forum (IAF) to be held on 7-8 September 2016. The Investing in Africa Forum was initiated by the China Development Bank with the support of the Chinese Government in 2015 and has become an important platform which brings together leaders from business, government and international organisations to discuss and explore opportunities for investment in the African continent.
 
This year’s discussions at the forum will focus on investment opportunities in the African continent in areas such as agriculture and agribusiness, infrastructure development, manufacturing, trade, tourism and renewable energy. Partnerships between China and South Africa in vocational training and skills development will also be discussed.
 
On 29 August 2016, Guangdong Province signed the Memorandum of Understanding with KwaZulu-Natal province, which will see closer cooperation between the two provinces in areas such as tourism, agriculture, ports, education and cultural exchanges. A Business Forum held in KwaZulu Natal province on 30 August 2016 which brought together business leaders from Guangdong Province and South Africa and resulted in the signing of several agreements to the value of 189 million US dollars.
 
President Zuma will use his participation in the Investing in Africa Forum to promote South Africa as a stable democracy and an attractive investment destination.
 
President Zuma is accompanied by the Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Ms M Nkoana-Mashabane; the Minister of Trade and Industry, Dr R Davis; and the Deputy Minister of Transport, Ms S Chikunga.
