Premier Supra Mahumapelo leads official opening of Kolong bridge in Taung, 20 Jul

Premier Supra Mahumapelo of Bokone Bophirima will tomorrow, 20 July, officially open the Kolong bridge in Taung. The project which entailed the construction of a new two lane (dual direction) bridge adjacent to the old bridge, commenced in 2015 and was completed this April. The project was initiated after the old single lane bridge connecting Taung with villages such as Manthe and Nhole, started posing a risk to road users. About 173 job opportunities were created for locals, whilst approximately R12,2m of the budget was spent on small medium and macro enterprises as well as other businesses in the province, for construction of this bridge.

During the construction stage, the department of Public Works and Roads had to relocate five families to make way for the new bridge project. The department has since constructed new houses for these families, which Premier Mahumapelo handed over earlier this year. A total of R87m was spent on the project, including the construction of the houses.

Premier Mahumapelo who will be accompanied by the Acting MEC for Public Works and Roads, Ontlametse Mochware and Greater Taung Local Municipality Mayor, Kgosi Nyoko Motlhabane, will officially open the bridge as follows:

Date: Thursday, 20 July 2017
