Premier David Makhura launches eKasiLab in the West Rand to promote a culture of innovation, 20 Feb 2017

Premier of Gauteng Province, Hon. David Makhura and The Innovation Hub -The Innovation agency of the Gauteng Province- in partnership with the Westrand District Municipality and the Gauteng Enterprise Propeller will on Monday, 20 February 2017, officially launch the eKasiLab Mohlakeng facility at Mohlakeng Enterprise Hub.
The programme intends to support entrepreneurs in the Smart Industry (ICT and manufacturing), green economy, biosciences and creative industries. eKasiLab is a business incubation programme that provides support services to township entrepreneurs. These centres are used as vehicles to promote the culture of Innovation and entrepreneurship in the township so as to ensure that local communities are able to access the same services and facilities as those offered at The Innovation Hub  located in Tshwane.

There are currently three eKasiLabs facilities, namely eKasiLab Soweto, eKasiLab Garankuwa and eKasiLab Alexandra, and there is provincial commitment to launch more of these facilities in other Gauteng corridors namely eKasiLab Vaal / Sebokeng, eKasiLab Tembisa and eKasiLab Mamelodi.

Central to the functions of the EkasiLab programme is the provision of opportunities to talented township based youth, the development of solutions aligned with the e-Government Department priorities, as well as to promote the culture of Innovation and entrepreneurship in the township with specific focus on innovative outputs in the community.
