Police arrest Warrant Officer for corruption

The HAWKS Anti-Corruption Unit, in conjunction with Crime Intelligence from Head Office has arrested a 39-year-old Warrant Officer for corruption and extortion.

In March this year, the officer remunerated the informer with R9 000 but later demanded R5 500, telling the recipient that the money was for another informer who was detained at Grootvlei Correctional Services.

The informer reported the matter to the HAWKS for investigation. During the investigation it was discovered that indeed the officer extorted money from the informer in many occasions.

He was arrested at his Crime Intelligence offices in Bloemfontein on Tuesday afternoon.

The suspect is due to appear before the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court today, 07 September 2016 facing charges of corruption and extortion.
